Gospel Light Baptist Church started with a tent revival in Ashland, KY.  Pastor Jason Porter and other members of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church helped out in this old-fashion tent revival here in Ashland, KY.  The meeting started in mid-summer of 2002, and took place over the span of one week.  Average attendance was about 50, with a high day of 64.  It was obvious that the Lord was in this work!

Shortly thereafter, Gospel Light Baptist Church had it's first church building.   We rented a church building on 17th street for 11 months in downtown, Ashland.  We chartered after 6 months as our own independent, fundamental Baptist church out of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church in Lexington, KY with a total of 37 members.  Many were saved including Bro. Dewey, an 80 year old man, and the first man baptized in this ministry out of a cattle trough.  The church continued to grow and before we knew it, the church building was too small for the work. 

In 2003, eleven months after starting on 17th street, Gospel Light Baptist Church leased property on Trinity Lane for a two year span.  After the lease, the church decided to purchase the property where the congregation still meets today.  The average morning attendance stands around 120.  As we continue to grow, there are more opportunities for us as a church to expand further. In early 2009, we were blessed with the opportunity to purchase almost 2 acres of land adjacent to the church.  Also, during the summer of 2009, God blessed us with another opportunity to build an educational building with a full size gymnasium.  If you would like to visit us, we would be honored to have you in one of our services!
